Staycation

The last two times my mother visited Chicago there were violent tornadoes in Western Mass and a week plus of consecutive 80 degree March days in Chicago, respectively. Also, both times I have developed mastitis within hours of her arrival. Clearly my mother is a harbinger of doom.

I would have posted during her visit what with the extra hands available to corral babies and boys while I sat peacefully at the computer for a few moments but I was waiting for access to all the pictures she took. I could have used my own photos of our activities but, despite carrying my camera everywhere we went, I was usually too busy wrangling sprogs, planting gardens and laying in bed waiting for death's sweet release to bother taking any.

I must say, the nice thing about having a 102 fever during unseasonably hot weather is that while everyone else was complaining about the squeaky ceiling fans in my house, I was comfortably ensconced at night beneath multiple layers of flannel sheets, fleece blankets and down comforters.

Thankfully I was able to get on antibiotics right quick and after sleeping away the first day and a half of her visit, we managed to get a few things done around town and at home. There were several days of working in the yard and pretending I know how to garden as well as a trip to the free zoo, a stop at the Skokie Exploratorium and even a visit to the Dinosaur Museum (aka The Field Museum of Natural History). And one night I even stayed up really late drinking wine with my mom. As in I drank wine... and my mom was there. It was nice. Instead of directing my belligerent comments about the people on the TV at the TV, I had someone with which to denigrate the participants of House Hunters.

I am sure I will write about all the things eventually but first I have to sort through the eleventy billion pictures she took.
